Climb to Honor Firefighters Lost in 9/11

Why do Firefighters climb? Each year firefighters from across the country join their Chicago-area brethren at Hustle Up the Hancock to honor the 343 fallen firefighters who gave their lives in the 9/11 World Trade Center Disaster.

What time do I climb on event day? All firefighters will climb together at a time to be determined. For start time and event day information:

  • If you are climbing with your firehouse team: See your team captain for information and materials before the event.
  • If you are climbing with the Firefighters for New York team: The team captain will contact you with event day information.

What gear can I wear to climb? Only firefighter helmets and boots are allowed. No gear bags, tanks, hoses, masks allowed. No turn out gear. All Firefighters will receive an event t-shirt. We encourage you to wear it, or wear your firehouse shirts.

Firefighter Division Awards! Which firehouse has the fastest hustlers? Personalized awards will be given to the Fastest Overall Firefighter and Fastest Firehouse. Each firefighter will receive a Hustle finisher medal.

Registration details. Firefighters can register online on November 1st. After that, they must complete a registration form if spots are available. Incomplete forms will not be processed. Climbing spots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Can family and friends join my team? They are welcome to join your team during general registration. Once general registration closes, only firefighters can join firefighter teams. *Please note that these reserved climbing spaces are for firefighters only, so be courteous of your fellow firefighters by ensuring that the spaces are used only by firefighters.*
